The Best of SYTYCD So Far
This is already an excellent year on the So You Think You Can Dance stage. I adore Sasha, Alexander, Chris, Ryan and Tadd. Ashley and Jess are growing on me every week. And there have already been a couple tough eliminations (I was so sad to see Nick go!). But there is also already one couple who's completely running away with the competition. The best 2 dancers also have the best partnering chemistry and a knack for pulling the best choreographers and routines of the hat. If Melanie or Marko doesn't win this thing I'll be floored. My vote's with Melanie. To prove my point, here's my favourite routine of the year so far. It's a gorgeous story set to a great Leona Lewis song, danced perfectly by my beloved M&M and choreographed by the infinitely adorable (and buck) couple Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo. It's just damn good. Enjoy.

...and one more
From the choreography category somehow we overlooked one of the most inspired routines of the year. So, here to rectify the situation with an honorary nomination are So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 contestants Kayla and Kupono dancing a Mia Michaels contemporary number to "Gravity"; also known as 'the addiction dance'.
Choreography Nominees: Zach Woodlee
*apologies for the video quality, FOX has removed any decent footage from YouTube

Jason's Last Dance

(As for the women, good choice America! Now there's just Melissa to take down next week before the final 2 women are exactly who they should be: Jeanine and Kayla)
In memoriam of Jason's time on So You Think You Can Dance, here's the clip of his best routine on the show (though I am also partial to his earlier contemporary pieces, the foxtrot, the Bollywood routine and that weird one with the alien).
PS on the 100th episode: It was lovely to see all the former contestants again. I think the episode could have stood being 2 hours long with more favourite routines being performed. And even though I'm re-watching Dawson's Creek this summer so am very pro-Katie Holmes at the moment, it has to be said that that wasn't so much dancing as it was strutting.

Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Wade Robson Jazz
in this strange and delightful Wade Robson piece, one of my favourite couples, Ashley and Kupono, bring brilliant character and mastery of unique movement to the stage.
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Foxtrot
controversial contemporary star Brandon and sizzling salsa dancer Janette dance an elegant Foxtrot to Michael Buble's "Come Fly with Me"
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Bollywood
adorable couple Jason and Caitlin dance a challenging Bollywood number that fights to keep up with last season's inaugural Josh and Katee Bollywood.
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Samba
Kayla and Max are the first couple to make Mary's infamous "hot tamale train" with this samba.
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Contemporary
the naughty ballerina and dancing dj Melissa and Ade dance a Mandy Moore contemporary to Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting"
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Hip Hop
fan favourite Phillip and unknown but adorable Jeanine dance a gorgeous Tabitha and Napoleon lyrical hip hop routine.
Highlights of SYTYCD Week 1- Jazz
Evan and Randi dance a hot Tyce Diorio jazz routine. This might have been my favourite of the week.

The Dancing Season 5: The Return of the Favourites
So You Think You Can Dance season 5 is off with a bang with returning favourites. In the grand tradition of Hok and Twitch (who made the top 20 as fan favourites after being cut the previous season), a favourite of mine from last season, Evan Kasprzak is back this year with his brother Ryan to jazz up the competition (literally). Here's hoping they make it all the way this time.
Other returning favourites include the outrageously good contemporary dancers who both just barely missed the season 4 top 20 cut: Brandon Bryant and Natalie Reid (who you may remember from last year as Katee's supportive friend who almost went through in her place).
The season is looking up.

Happy Ending
After this week's Privileged I've fallen in love with this song. Here to celebrate this love are Natalli and Vincent from So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

This Week's Best Dance
Katee tops them all once again with Will right beside her in this transcendant Pas De Deux.
